Rebalancing the connection between brain and body.

Overview

Zone Technique at Kaden Chiropractic & Wellness

Zone Technique is a chiropractic healing method that traces back to Dr. Thurman Fleet, who began teaching Zone Therapy in the 1930s, and was later refined and renamed by Dr. Peter Goldman. It organizes the body into six zones: glandular, eliminative, nervous, digestive, muscular, and circulatory.

The idea is that each zone is regulated by a center in the brain, and that emotional, physical, or chemical stress can disturb that communication. Dr. Kaden, who is Basic Certified, Advanced Certified and Mastermind Certified in The Zone Technique, checks specific points on the head to identify which zones need attention, then stimulates related points along the spine.

The Zone Technique is a chiropractic healing method originally created by Dr. Thurman Fleet in 1931 in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Fleet originally called it Zone Therapy. After learning this method of healing in 1993 and refining it over the next two decades, Dr. Peter Goldman of San Francisco, California created his own version. He named it Zone Technique. Dr. Frank E. Kaden, D.C. has completed advanced training in this technique and is Mastermind Certified in Zone Technique and one of the first to be certified to teach Zone Technique.

HERE ARE THE SIX ZONES OF THE HUMAN BODY:

Diagram of the six body systems: glandular, eliminative, nervous, digestive, muscular, circulatory/lymphatic

Dr. Fleet taught the following: “There are ONLY SIX kinds of disturbances that can affect the human body. These are GLANDULAR, ELIMINATIVE, NERVOUS, DIGESTIVE, MUSCULAR, and CIRCULATORY. All diseased conditions, aches and pains, and other discomforts experienced by the body can be attributed to one or more of the above disturbances to the body’s 6 systems or Zones.”

Here is how the Zones work: According to Dr. Fleet, the human brain is composed of many centers. These centers form in the embryonic stage of life and develop from the dorso-medial ectoderm of the embryo. There is a center which controls the glands of the body, a center which is associated with the organs of elimination, a center which regulates the central nervous system, and which is differentiated as an ectodermal neural plate in the dorso-medial region of the ectoderm.

The digestive organs are regulated by a brain center. In the motor cortex of the brain we find a center which controls all of the muscles of the body, and in the caudate nuclei (both), we find the center which regulates the flow of fluids (circulation) through the body.

Because the body may be properly classified as an ELECTRICAL MACHINE, these 6 brain centers represent the POSITIVE POLE of the body, and specific related points in the spinal cord represent the NEGATIVE POLE of the body. When there is a disturbance in any of the bodily areas, one or more of these centers are “shorted out.”

There has been a disruption of normal function of the entire center due to the effect of emotional, physical, or chemical stress.

The Zone doctor examines the patient to determine which of the brain centers are not in harmony with the systems they control. This is done by the Zone doctor feeling specific points on the patient’s head. These points are related to the six brain centers by nerve connections. When a brain center is not sending the proper signals to its system, all bodily material associated with that system suffers. In order to correct this, the zone doctor stimulates specific points in the spinal cord.

There are six sets of four points in the spinal cord (negative pole) that are related to the six brain centers (positive pole). Stimulation of the proper points by the Zone doctor sends healing energy up the spinal cord to the brain centers that need balancing. The balanced brain centers then are able to send out the proper signals to the body’s systems and the body is better able to heal itself.

Why a Systems-Based Approach Can Help

Many people come to a chiropractor with problems that are not simply about the back or neck. They may be dealing with digestive trouble, low energy, sleep issues or a sense that something in their body is out of balance, often after seeing several providers without clear answers. Zone Technique offers a way of looking at these concerns through the lens of the body's major systems and their connection to the brain. Rather than focusing only on the area where symptoms show up, it aims to identify which system is under stress and how emotional, physical or chemical stressors may be playing a part.

Dr. Kaden is a member of the Zone Technique Mastermind Group. For a practice that focuses heavily on pain and dysfunction related to the body's organs, this approach fits naturally with his other training in Applied Kinesiology, Functional Medicine and nutrition. Zone Technique is gentle and noninvasive, which many patients appreciate, especially those who are sensitive or prefer a lighter touch. As with any chiropractic approach, it is not a cure for disease. It is meant to support your body's own ability to restore balance, alongside the care of your medical doctors, as part of a broader plan for resolving health issues and getting back to the life you want.

Your care

What Zone Technique Care Looks Like Over Time

Because Zone Technique works with whole systems rather than a single sore spot, changes are often gradual. Dr. Kaden reassesses at each visit to see which systems still appear to need attention and how your symptoms are responding, and he adjusts the focus of care accordingly. Most patients find the sessions calm and comfortable. Some notice shifts in how they feel within a few visits, while others with long-standing problems need a longer course of care. Keeping brief notes on sleep, digestion, energy and pain between visits can help both of you see patterns that are easy to miss from one week to the next.

Daily habits support the work done in the office. Since the method considers emotional, physical and chemical stress, attention to sleep, nutrition, hydration, movement and stress management is part of the picture. Dr. Kaden may suggest changes in these areas based on which systems appear to be involved. Zone Technique is not a substitute for medical diagnosis. If you have symptoms such as chest pain, blood in your stool or urine, unexplained weight loss, high fever or severe abdominal pain, see a medical doctor first. Many patients use Zone Technique as a complementary approach while continuing with their physicians and prescribed treatments.

Common questions

In Zone Technique, the body's functions are grouped into six systems, or zones: glandular, eliminative, nervous, digestive, muscular, and circulatory. The method holds that health concerns can be related to an imbalance in one or more of these zones.

Many people think of chiropractic as a mechanical way of moving bones. Zone Technique places its focus on the brain and its communication with the body. The doctor first identifies which zones are out of balance, then works on spinal points related to those zones.

It began with Dr. Thurman Fleet, who created a method he called Zone Therapy in San Antonio, Texas, in 1931. Dr. Peter Goldman learned the method in the 1990s, refined it over the following years, and named his version Zone Technique.

The best way is an evaluation. Call (310) 251-0862 or request an appointment online. Dr. Kaden will review your history, examine you, and explain his findings. Individual responses vary, and he will tell you what he believes is appropriate for your situation.

Yes. Dr. Kaden is trained in several approaches, including Diversified adjustments, Applied Kinesiology and the Kaufman Pain Neutralization Techniques, and he often combines methods based on what your exam shows. Zone Technique may be used on its own or alongside other care in the same visit. He will explain what he plans to do and why, so you always understand your treatment.
